on the leap year i attended a sensory doing day at Siobhan Davies Dance Studio. the day was nurturing, warming and slow. one of the practices we explored was lying with our faces close to someone else's and whispering a landscape from our imaginations - seeing where it goes and actively listening to our partners. the quote above captures some of the feelings the experience brought to me.
The Philosophy of Walking
i've been learning a lot about time and perception of time this month + one of the big things i'm trying to lean into is slowness. i recently found this book in the library + i like this page because it talks about the illusion of speed saving time. reading extracts of this book has drawn me towards hiking and playing chess which feels like a good way to learn to be slower.

i've never been to the royal opera house before, but this month i was able to go and see Aisha and Abhaya - it was amazing and exciting to see a contemporary ballet performance which played with sound and video in a way i've not seen before. the sound engulfed me + for me i saw glistens of dancehall inspired moves which is always welcomed. the night before i also saw Marikiscrycry at NOW20 which was also wonderful and emotional. atm i'm enjoying prioritizing movement in my life + observing movement.
one evening this month i went along to the mobile apothecary - where people donate time and money to the cause of making herbal medicine, remedies and preparations for vulnerable people in London and further afield. this time i was part of the team making a liquid deodorant. the initiative started as a collaboration between phytology + hedge herbs. i would recommend getting involved to anyone interested in learning new things about herbs + collective healing.
i've been slowly getting a bit obsessed with hiking. currently spending more time learning about it than doing it - trying to change this. i hadn't realised until making this list that maybe browsing the above book during one of my library shifts was the start of this new obsession. i've been trying to be more aware of how i move so perhaps hiking is the next step on that journey.

p.s. i'd say the books worth looking through in a library - not buying.
The power of stretching : simple practices to support wellbeing
i attended a talk by Theatrum Mundi in Whitechapel Gallery. Some of the event was uninteresting to me but i loved hearing from Adesola Akinleye talking about the connection between body and concepts of time, spaces as speculative fiction and the concept of becoming incomplete. it was very inspiring and thought provoking, if anyone would like to discuss these topics further email me lilli_chambers@live.com
